VOICE OF OUR LITTLE STAKEHOLDERS
In October 2024, TEACH began working with Abhishek and Khushbu, siblings from a migrant family living in Mewla Maharajpur, Faridabad. Unlike most children in their neighborhood who attended school daily, these two remained out of the formal education system—not due to a lack of interest, but because their parents were unable to afford school-related expenses after covering rent and other essential costs.
Despite these challenges, Abhishek and Khushbu showed remarkable self-motivation. Their mother became their first teacher, helping them learn the English and Hindi alphabets, basic counting, and everyday vocabulary. The children also turned to digital media—picking up English words and phrases from movies viewed on their parents’ mobile phone. Abhishek once shared, with great pride, that he had learned “running in the gym” means daudna. Their creativity in seeking out learning opportunities was both heartening and inspiring.
When asked about school, their faces lit up with excitement. They spoke fondly of wanting to wear a “school dress” and learn something new every day—an experience they had long dreamed of but never accessed. At TEACH, they quickly became regular participants, engaging actively in sessions and demonstrating consistent enthusiasm for structured learning.
Recognizing their potential and strong desire to study, the TEACH team initiated conversations with their parents. Over the course of several home visits and community interactions, the team provided clear information on the formal school admission process, available government provisions, and the importance of early schooling. With ongoing encouragement and logistical support, the parents were able to collect the necessary documentation for admission.
As of the 2025 academic session, both Abhishek and Khushbu have been successfully enrolled in a local government school. This marks a significant milestone not just for the children, but for their family and the TEACH initiative as a whole.
This case illustrates the broader impact of the TEACH model—bridging educational gaps in underserved communities by creating access, building trust with families, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and realize their dreams.
